March 2008 Porch Bulb Project Shares its Message with Bienvenidos Food Bank

Sue Okerson, one of the folks behind the Porch Bulb Project, is also active with the Bienvenidos Food Bank, which has been providing food and supplies to needy Highlands families for over twenty-five years. Sue approached the Bienvenidos board with the Porch Bulb Project’s message of the economic, environmental, and social benefits of wise energy use, and they felt it fit well with their mission of social justice and assistance for the disadvantaged.

They were able to get 200 compact fluorescent bulbs from Scott Morrissey, the Program Manager of Denver’s sustainable development initiative, GreenPrint Denver. On March 27, 2008, they will be doing a compact fluorescent bulb giveaway to their regular food bank clients. Each of these bulbs can save a family as much as $40 over the life of the bulb.
